Jordan and US Forge New Trade Agreement to Boost Economic Relations

Date:

The United States and Jordan have unveiled a new trade agreement designed to enhance economic collaboration, lower trade barriers, and create new business opportunities for both nations. The deal ensures Jordan will maintain duty-free access for most American products entering its markets. Additionally, both countries will collaborate to eliminate logistical and trade challenges to facilitate a smoother exchange of goods.

According to US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, this agreement is part of President Donald Trump’s initiative to strengthen economic and strategic ties in the Middle East while opening up new markets for American exporters. Meanwhile, Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, highlighted that Jordanian exports to the US will incur a 10 percent tariff, whereas American exports to Jordan will continue to be exempt under the existing free-trade agreement. This agreement is anticipated to boost mutual investment opportunities.

The free-trade agreement between the US and Jordan, originally signed in 2001, marked Jordan as the first Arab nation to establish such a pact with Washington. By 2010, all duties under this agreement had been eliminated, paving the way for strengthened trade relations.

In 2025, the trade volume between the two countries reached $5.34 billion, as reported by US government figures. Jordan’s primary exports include chemicals, garments, mineral products, and precious stones, while its major import partners are China, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates.
