Oman has reinforced its dedication to maritime security and the freedom of navigation, highlighting the importance of collaboration with Southeast Asian nations. This commitment was underscored during a ministerial meeting in Manila, Philippines, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC). Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi emphasized the critical role of international law, mutual respect, and peaceful cooperation in maintaining both regional and global stability.

Minister Sayyid Badr stressed the significance of dialogue and diplomacy as tools for resolving disputes and fostering confidence among countries. He underscored the necessity of keeping key international waterways, such as the Strait of Hormuz, open and secure for global navigation and trade. In his remarks, he pointed to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) as a fundamental framework for ensuring maritime security and safeguarding global trade, food security, and energy supplies.

Oman has also called for enhanced cooperation among coastal states and users of international shipping routes to ensure maritime safety. The country cited the Strait of Malacca and Singapore as exemplary models of successful collaborative maritime security efforts. This cooperation among nations is seen as vital to maintaining the open and accessible nature of these crucial shipping lanes.

Further strengthening its maritime partnerships with ASEAN member states, Oman is committed to working alongside these nations to ensure the security and efficiency of international shipping routes. The emphasis on collaborative efforts highlights the shared responsibility of safeguarding these waterways, which are essential for the movement of goods and resources worldwide.
