Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, has called on Iran to adopt a more conciliatory approach following a confrontational address by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the United Nations General Assembly. Tajani criticized Pezeshkian’s speech, which included sharp rebukes of the United States and a declaration that Tehran would resist external pressure.
In response to Pezeshkian’s remarks, Tajani emphasized Italy’s support for diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving tensions with Iran. He urged the Iranian government to alter its rhetoric and abandon its pursuit of nuclear weapons, suggesting that such changes could facilitate dialogue and help Iran defend its positions more effectively.
Tajani’s comments come amid ongoing international concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions and its relations with Western countries. He stressed the importance of maintaining open diplomatic channels and warned that a confrontational stance could hinder efforts to reach a peaceful resolution.
Italy’s top diplomat reiterated the country’s commitment to finding a diplomatic solution and encouraged Iran to reconsider its current approach to international relations. By adopting a less confrontational tone, Tajani suggested, Iran could better navigate the complex geopolitical landscape while preserving its interests.
