India secured the Asian Games men’s cricket gold medal after defeating Pakistan by 19 runs in a thrilling final held at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. This victory marks India’s successful defense of their title.
Opting to bat first, India set a formidable target of 212 runs, finishing with a score of 211/6. The team got off to a strong start, thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s rapid half-century which propelled India to 81/2 in the Powerplay, marking their highest Powerplay score against Pakistan in T20 internationals. However, Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Arafat Minhas, Ahmed Daniyal, and Abrar Ahmed, managed to slow India’s scoring in the middle overs with key wickets.
The late innings saw Tilak Varma play a crucial role, scoring an unbeaten 51 off just 22 balls. His partnership with Shivam Dube, who added 27 runs, was instrumental in pushing India’s total past the 200-run mark.
In response, Pakistan mounted a strong chase, bolstered by Hasan Nawaz’s impressive unbeaten 96 from 51 deliveries. Nawaz’s 87-run partnership with Saim Ayub put significant pressure on the Indian team. However, India’s bowlers regained control during the closing overs. Washington Sundar’s effective 18th over and Jasprit Bumrah’s tight penultimate over proved pivotal in stalling Pakistan’s momentum.
Pakistan required 33 runs in the final over, but Shivam Dube held his nerve to successfully defend the total, sealing the 19-run victory for India. This win not only adds another Asian Games gold to India’s tally but also extends their dominance over Pakistan in T20 internationals.
