Iran has alleged that Qatar is hindering its investigation into the whereabouts of three Iranian pilots who disappeared during a recent conflict. Tehran claims the pilots vanished after an incident involving the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. However, Qatar has refuted these allegations, denying any detention of Iranian pilots. An Iranian armed forces official, Mohammad Bagherzadeh, stated that an expert team from the Iranian Air Force has been awaiting clearance to travel to Qatar to further investigate the situation. He urged Qatari authorities to grant access and called on the International Committee of the Red Cross to intervene.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed al-Ansari, firmly rejected the accusations of holding the pilots, explaining that Qatar had only taken defensive actions after the pilots allegedly violated Qatari airspace and failed to respond to communication attempts. Qatar emphasized its commitment to cooperation, noting that search and rescue operations were conducted to locate the missing pilots and remains. Additionally, Doha confirmed coordination with Tehran for transferring the remains of one pilot who was found.
The tension between the two countries escalated further, as Qatar revealed that Iranian authorities had been invited back in April to send a team to Qatar for discussions on the search and rescue operation. Despite this invitation, according to Qatar, there had been no response from Iran.
