Oman Advocates for Dialogue and Peaceful Solutions at UN Assembly

Date:

Oman has reinforced its dedication to resolving international conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy, as articulated by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi during the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Emphasizing the significance of dialogue in building trust and addressing global crises, Al Busaidi called for respect for national sovereignty and international law while urging avoidance of force and interference in internal state affairs.

Highlighting regional security concerns, Oman expressed apprehension regarding the effects of conflicts on trade and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Al Busaidi reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to ensuring safe passage in accordance with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. He urged all involved parties to practice restraint and seek resolutions through political negotiations. Oman also reiterated its solidarity with Gulf nations in protecting their security and sovereignty.

Addressing the Yemeni crisis, Oman renewed its call for a political solution that maintains Yemen’s unity and stability. Al Busaidi encouraged all parties to work towards an agreement that respects Yemeni people’s rights and supports the country’s development and reconstruction efforts.

Oman also voiced condemnation of ongoing Israeli actions affecting Palestinians, reaffirming its support for Palestinian rights and the creation of a Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, consistent with the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions. Additionally, Oman highlighted its initiatives to promote tolerance and counteract hate speech through the Muscat Plan and broader cooperation with the United Nations.

In alignment with its domestic agenda, Oman underscored its commitment to sustainable development goals under Oman Vision 2040. This includes investments in renewable energy, sustainable transportation, green industries, and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
